Wedding Music in West Clare | Spanish Point, Doolin & Beyond

West Clare is one of the most popular wedding regions in Ireland, and as a Limerick-based musician, it's one of the regions I perform in most regularly — just over the county border.

With its dramatic coastline, Atlantic views, charming villages, and relaxed atmosphere, it has become a hugely popular destination for couples planning weddings in Ireland. Whether you're travelling from elsewhere in the country or welcoming guests from overseas, West Clare offers a wonderful balance of scenery, hospitality, and character.

Over the years I've provided ceremony and drinks reception music throughout the region, from Spanish Point and Miltown Malbay to Doolin, Kilrush, and Doonbeg.

West Clare Venues

The Armada Hotel, Spanish Point

On sunny days, there are few places quite like Spanish Point for a wedding. The Armada is one of the venues where I regularly provide both ceremony and drinks reception music.

One of the things couples love most about the venue is its connection to the Atlantic coastline. Ceremonies take place overlooking the dramatic ocean view, a spectacular backdrop any time of year. I've performed for indoor ceremonies, outdoor ceremonies, and drinks receptions here, and regardless of the weather, the setting always feels special.

The newer drinks reception space (the Pearl Suite) has an easy flow from the ceremony to reception, allowing myself and guests to move naturally from the ceremony into the next part of the celebration while the music continues to set the atmosphere.

Many couples who celebrate at The Armada choose a church ceremony nearby before returning to the venue, most commonly in Miltown Malbay or Star of the Sea in Quilty.

Hotel Doolin

Hotel Doolin is a gem that has developed a reputation as one of Ireland's most distinctive wedding venues. I most often perform ceremony music in the beautifully built Eco-Barn, which creates a relaxed and characterful setting for civil ceremonies with its high ceiling and custom decor options. The venue feels authentic and welcoming, with a style that is a relaxed alternative to a traditional ballroom.

On fine days, ceremonies can also take place outdoors in the garden, and so the drinks reception starts as soon as the exit song plays!

One of the things I particularly like about Hotel Doolin is how naturally guests move from the ceremony barn into the outdoor space afterwards, creating an easy atmosphere that suits live music beautifully.

Doonbeg (Golf Resort)

Doonbeg offers one of the most dramatic coastal wedding settings in Ireland. For drinks receptions, I often perform harp in the Drawing Room, a beautiful space that overlooks the golf course and Atlantic coastline. On fine days, music can naturally spill into both indoor and outdoor areas, allowing guests to enjoy the views while still feeling connected to the atmosphere inside. The combination of luxury surroundings and spectacular scenery makes it a particularly memorable venue.

West Clare Churches

St Joseph's Church, Miltown Malbay

St Joseph's Church is one of the most frequently requested churches in the area. The scale of the building suits both larger guest numbers and more traditional church ceremonies.

Because of its high ceilings and openness of the space, music carries beautifully throughout the church, creating a lovely sense of occasion for entrances, hymns, and exit music.

Quilty Church (Star of the Sea)

Quilty Church has a very different feel to Miltown Malbay. While still capable of accommodating a substantial guest list, it feels more intimate once inside. Located opposite the coast, the church has a wonderful sense of character and history, including its distinctive bell tower which is a familiar landmark in the village. There is a cozy musician’s corner just beside the organ, where I have plenty of space to set up my keyboard or harp, or I have even played there as a duo or trio.

Quilty Church pairs particularly well with celebrations at The Armada Hotel just a few minutes away.

Doolin Church (Church of the Holy Rosary)

Many couples choose a church ceremony in Doolin before celebrating elsewhere along the coast, particularly before a Hotel Doolin reception. The church is located just minutes from the hotel and provides a lovely option for couples who wish to combine a traditional church ceremony with a destination wedding atmosphere.

St Senan's Church, Kilrush

St Senan's Church is one of my favourite churches in Clare.

The first thing most people notice when they walk inside is the scale and beauty of the building. The stained glass, lighting, decorative tilework, and high ceilings create an incredibly impressive setting for a wedding ceremony.

From a musician's perspective, the acoustic is exceptional. Music resonates beautifully throughout the church, making it a joy to perform in and creating a wonderful atmosphere for guests.

Many couples celebrating at Doonbeg choose St Senan's for their ceremony before travelling the short distance to the coast for their reception.

Choosing Music for a West Clare Wedding

Every venue along the Clare coast has its own personality. An intimate church may call for a slightly different musical approach than a large ceremony space overlooking the Atlantic, and a drinks reception in a lively hotel setting may suit a different instrument than a relaxed garden gathering.

Part of my role is helping couples choose music that feels right for both the venue and the atmosphere they want to create. Whether you're planning a wedding at The Armada, Hotel Doolin, Doonbeg, St Joseph's Church in Miltown Malbay, Quilty Church, St Senan's Church in Kilrush, or anywhere else in the region, I’ll be happy to help guide you through the process and create a soundtrack that complements your day beautifully.
